Extension knowledge needs of rural women for decreasing the loss of apricot production in in Qualiobieh and Fayoum governorates.

Abstract: The study aims at : 1) Determining the knowledge need level of rural women for the recommendations of decreasing the loss of apricot production processes, 2) Determining the differences between the res¬pondent rural women of the sample towards the level of knowledge need for the recommendations of decreasing the loss of apricot production processes, 3) Identifying the appropriate extension methods preferred by rural women for receiving the extension missages of this activity, 4) Determining the differences between knowledge need level of responds regarding some personal variables, 5) Proposing an extension plan of work for developing rural women in Fayoum and Qualiobieh gover¬norates to decrease the loss of apricot production. To achieve the study objectives, data were collected from (112) respondent rural women in two villages of the two mentioned governorates by personal interviews using a pretested questionnaire. Means, "T" test and chi square were used for data analysis. The results of the study were : a) the knowledge need level of rural women was moderate about the recommended processes of decreasing the loss of apricot production. B) No singnificant differences were found between the respondent rural women of the two studied villages regarding the knowledge need level of the recommended processes of decreasing the loss of apricot produ¬ction.
c) Four extension methods were prefered by the respondent rural women including rural T.V. Programs, home visits, radio programs, and extension publications, for receiving the extension messages of this activity, d) No significant differences were found between the level knowledge need of the respondent rural women regarding 3 of the studied variables Ed¬ucational status, land holding size, contribution of post harvest apr¬icot processes, while there was a significant difference between this level and their age categories. Due to the previous results, the study suggested an extension plan of work to meet knowledge needs of rural women for developing them to avoid the loss of the apricot production.
