Effect of feeding cotton gin trash on performance of fattening lambs

Abstract: The present work was carried out to study the effect of partial replacement of. Feed mixture (CFM) by cotton gin trash (CGT) on productive performance of fattening lambs. Twenty four lambs (Cross bred Suffolk X Ossimi) averaging about 22.50 Kg live body weight were divided into 4 groups (6 in each) to evaluate the experimental rations in comparison with: C (control) 60% of the allowances from concentrate feed mixture (CFM) +rice straw (RS) ad lib. Ration TI 50% of the allowances CFM+ 10% CGT RS ad lib., ration T2: 45% the allowances from CFM+15% of the allowances from CGT+RS ad lib., and ration T3: 40% of the allowances from CFM+20% of the allowances from CGT +RS ad lib .
The results were as follows:
1- The DM intake was insignificantly increased with increasing CGT ration in the rations
2-The daily body gain (Kg) were 0.152, 0.153, 0.149 and 0.146 and the feed conversion were 9.61; 9.61; 9.87 and 10.14 (Kg DM/ Kg gain) for ration C, TI, T2, and T3, respectively were nearly similar except for ration T3.
3-The DM and OM digestibility for ration T1 were significantly (P<0.05) higher than. Ration T3. The CP digestibility for ration T3 was significantly lower than for the other treatments.
4- The CF and EE digestibility for ration T2 and T3 were significantly (P<0.05) higher than ration C. While the NFE digestibility of rations C and TI was significantly (P<0.05) higher than other.
5- The TDN and DCP of rations C and TI were significantly (P<0.05) higher than others.
6- inclusion of CGT in the lambs rations TI, T2 and T3 caused a decrease in feed as (LE/Kg gain) by 8.35; 10.32 and 12.29% compared to animals fed ration C, respectively, Also feeding rations containing different levels of CGT improved economic efficiency than the control (C).
It could be concluded that cotton gin trash is a good quality feed and could replace concentrate feed mixture up to 20% for fattening lambs.
