Effect of coating hatching chicken eggs with gelatin and nitrogen gas at different storage periods. on internal egg quality, hatching characteristics and post-hatch chicks growth

Abstract: This study was carried out to determine the effects of coating hatching chicken eggs with gelatin and nitrogen gas at different storage periods on Internal egg quality, Hatching characteristics and Post-hatch chicks growth. .
A total number of 2400 Golden Montazah (GM) eggs were used in this study. The eggs were obtained from a 52 weeks old breeder flock. The eggs were divided to four equal groups (600 eggs of each) during different storage periods. The 1, 2, 3 and 4 groups were stored at 1, 7, 14 and 21 days respectively. The each group was divided to four treatments (150 eggs of each) during storage periods as the following:
The 1st treatment as control - the 2nd treatment was coated with film of gelatin. The 3rd treatment was enclosed in plastic bags and injecting nitrogen gas into the bags. The 4th treatment was coated with film - of gelatin and enclosed in plastic bags and injecting nitrogen gas into the bags. All treatments were washing and incubated at a constant temperature of 37.5°c and 55% relative humidity throughout the incubation period until the 18th day. All treatments were washing and incubated after different storage periods. The results indicated that coating the chicken eggs with gelatin and nitrogen gas at different storage periods were reducing the change in egg weight loss without decrease or deterioration and keeping the internal egg quality. Also, it was reducing the percentages of embryonic mortality, malpositions and increased hatchability percent from fertile and / or total eggs compared with the control treatment at 1, 7, 14 and 21 days of storage periods. The hatchability percent from fertile and / or total eggs decreased (p <0.05) with. increasing storage time.
