The Economic Analysis of Agricultural Commodities Research Department was established in 1955, where the Food and Agriculture Organization sent the Indian expert "Britbal Sing" to the Egyptian Ministry of Agriculture the general tool of the economy to conduct studies in the economic analysis of agricultural commodities. " Britbal Sing" and his collaborators issued two scientific reports, one of which deals with the economic analysis of Egyptian rice, and the second deals with the “economic analysis of the Egyptian cotton”. The Economic Analysis Research Department of Agricultural Commodities has become one of the main divisions of the Agricultural Economics Research Institute in 8 sections after the decision to establish the Agricultural Research Center on October 7th, 1971.
The department was rotated by a number of Egyptian experts, starting from "Prof. Dr. Saad Eldin Mohamed El Shayal", where he published several studies, the most important of which was "Analysis of the Agricultural Costs of Egyptian Crops", followed by "Prof. Dr. Mohamed Youssef El-Sarky" where he issued a number A large number of studies concerned with the economic analysis and foreign trade of Egyptian agricultural commodities, followed by "Prof. Dr. Mohamed Mohamed Fahim Sharaf", " Prof. Dr. Ahmed Selim Khalil" and "Prof. Dr. Mahmoud El-Sayed Issa Mansour" Where there were interested in studies of the economics of Egyptian agricultural crops through the issuance of several reports of the current situation and the future export of agricultural commodities, including wheat, corn, potatoes and oranges, as well as studies of the economics of Egyptian agricultural resources such as fertilizers, labor and machinery.
The activities and specializations of the department have expanded, including Economic Analysis for economic, productive, consumer, price, and income for a large number of agricultural crops, In addition to agricultural, fish and animal production inputs, with a comprehensive analysis of a family budget study in the sample to study the consumer behavior of the Egyptian consumer and influencing factors, as well as issuing reports of the situation and outlook of many crops and animal products.

Economic Analysis of Agricultural Commodities Research Department has included three research units:
- The Economic Analysis Research Unit for field crops, vegetables and fruits.
- The Economic Analysis Research Unit for Animal Production.
- The Economic Analysis Research Unit for Agro-processing.
- The Research Department of Economic Analysis of Agricultural Commodities
