Objectives
Design and carry out the Research startegy for sustainable development of Aquaculture and Fisheries in Egypt, related to direct general strategy of the country and integration with animal and plant production, in order to the food requirments from fish protien, to reach self sufficient from fish protein sources, then export the fish. In meantime, environemental, socio-economic aspect will be considered. Develop Technology transfer to the target organs. Modify and transfer the results of researches and studies to target and policy maker for development rual and desert societies
CLAR activities:
I- Research activities.
I- Research activities
To achieve these goals CLAR carries out researches and applied studies.
1. Participation in decrease the animal protein gap through applied research focusing in sustainable development of aquaculture and fisheries
2. Participation in the national plan for newly graduate and youth job source of incomes through projects of low economic, rapid return and also focusing on low scale aquaculture.
3. Focusing on fish and crustaceans aquaculture in desert regions and sea shore and Mariculture in addition to organic fish aquaculture for export to improve the trade balance.
4. Increase the production of fish per unit area on scientific and economic bases.
5. Study the problems of hatchery for new native species (Lates niloticus,…. ) for increasing fry production and improve survival rate and brood stock management to introduce new local species as diversification in aquaculture.
6. Breed fish strains and hybrid that perform better under environmental conditions and different aquaculture systems.
7. To carry out basic and adaptive research for development and optimum utilization of all living aquatic resources and coordinate fisheries research activities in Egypt.
8. To do experiments and standardize techniques for maximizing productions and better management of living aquatic resources.
9. To identify new production opportunities and develop them to usable levels.
10. To develop skilled research manpower training.
11. To transfer the technologies to users through training of extension workers, planners, fish farmers and other relevant persons.
12. To advice the government in all matters relating to research and management of living aquatic resources.
13. Produce low cost, untraditional. Feed for living aquatic organisms, and use of plant and animal by-products as feed and fertilizer for aquaculture.
14. Study the environmental, socio-economic and extension aspects in aquaculture.
15. Focusing on desert, sea-shore maricultutre and crustaceans aquaculture.
16. Use of Biotechnology in diagnosis and control and use of friendly environmental products and immunostimulants like plant and animal extracts and vaccination in fish disease control.
17. Determine the most suitable basis for improvement means of handling, storage and processing fish.
