About Us

This department started as experimental unit for the empirical bakery in 1983 Then it was developed to be the Central Laboratory for Agricultural Industries in 1989, there after it became a department in the Food Technology Research Institute FTRI in December 1991 under the supervision of Dr. Nabih Abdel Hamid, Dr. Saeed Mansour, Dr. Marvat Osman, Dr. Afaf Abdel Hamid, Dr. Ahmed Morad, Dr. Yousif Abou El Azm, and currently Dr Hoda Gharib .
-This department is considered one of the most important departments which are interested in the Field of bread and pastry research and technology and bakery products Also it is interested in designing the special programs for producing special bakery products.

-The department employs several researchers: chief researchers, senior researchers, and researchers who amount for 28 people and this is in addition to research assistants, agricultural engineers and casual labor also the employees in this department include 10 research consultants who served in the field of bakery research for several years.
-The researchers of this department an accomplished 7 ph. D. theses, 6 M.sc. theses, and 160 published scientific papers.
Also, this department consists of number of labs which is specialized in chemical analysis including determination of minerals, lab for baking, lab for rheology and a unit for producing tortillas.
