Achievements

1- Mixed cultivation
Several field trials were conducted in intercropping and relay cropping. Trials included intercropping soybean with maize, wheat and faba bean with cotton, wheat or faba bean with tomato, tomato with maize, faba bean or wheat with sugarbeet, and onion or cucurbits with cotton. These trials were concerned with optimum cultural practices and pertinent varieties to intercrop.

2- increase intensification index by increase the number of crop sequence).
Several trials were conducted to increase number of corps grown per year (rather than two crops/year). These were done by short duration crops and the use of no till system. The trials included growing winter crop followed by soybean then Nile maize or growing winter crop then followed by early mature rice followed Fahl berseem then wheat.

3- Crop Rotations.
Two year and three year crop rotation trials were performed in rice producing area. The obtained evidenced the negative effects of growing cotton or rice monocropping system (repeating growing rice year after year) in cotton or rice producing areas.

4- Introducing new crops.
Several field trials were performed to introduce cassava and quinoa crops in the Egyptian crop structure to elucidate optimum cultural practices and suitable varieties to our environment.
