JOURNAL EDITING QUALIFYING FOR AGRICULTURAL EDITORS IN SOME GOVERNORATES OF A.R.E.

Abstract:
The study objectives determined knowledge degree of agricultural journal editors about: fundamentals and functions of Agricultural journal editing, the characteristics needed for the journal editors and innovations in the Agricultural journal editing field, and also determining the attitude degree of interviewees towards the Agricultural journal editing work, Besides determining the relationship between knowledge degree about the preceding variables and attitude degree with the studied independent variables. Also determining the participation degree of each of the studied independent variables having correlation relationship for each of the prementioned knowledge and attitude degrees.

The study was carried out in ten governmental locations affiliated to the agricultural sector and working in the field journal editing in Cairo, Giza and some of the lower Egypt governorates, whereas a sample of interviewees were chosen randomly from 253 agricultural editors working in them. The sample size amounted to 110 interviewees with percentage amounting to about 43.5 percent. Where in each of them in condition of working a minimum of three years should exist. The interviewees were chosen randomly from each location with the same prementioned percentage.

Personal interview questionnaire was utilized for data collection of the study from agricultural journal editors through December 2000 until mid of January 2001. For presenting and analyzing collected data: tables, simple correlation coefficient ch2, Phi coefficient, step-wise multiple regression and correlation technique, average, standard deviation and average degree, frequencies and percentages statistical criteria were utilized.
The study revealed the most important following results:
1- Percentage of those not knowing journal editing fundamentals of the interviewees ranged between 40 to 82.7 percents for various studied fundamentals.
2- Percentage of those not knowing functions of agricultural journal editing reach degree between weak and average amounted to about 67.3 percent of the sample size.
3- There is different in the average degree of interviewees knowledge with characteristics needed for agricultural journal editors ranging between 2.25 to 2.81 degrees.
4- More than half of the interviewees (53.6%) know the innovations in the field of agricultural journal editing with degrees ranged between weak and average.
5- About 61% of the interviewees have an attitude degree ranging between weak and neutral towards the agricultural journal editing work.
6- There are two independent variables have significant positive correlation with most of the dependent variables including the attitude degree towards working in the agricultural journal editing on the level 0.01 they are " the satisfaction degree about agricultural journal editing work and the degree of dependence on information sources", where they participated in illustrating the total variance in knowledge degree about the dependent variables with percentages ranging between 25.544 and 35.040.

The percentage of participation to those two independent variables in illustrating total variance in the attitude degree towards agricultural journal editing reached 29.963 percent.
