The leading role of field demonstration's Farmers in Sohag governorate

Abstract: The field demonstrations as an effective agricultural extension method, and the importance of farmer's field demonstration leader role has increased the extension system has had to adjust this role and activate it in different educational situation to meet the different target groups' needs.
The field demonstration provide an opportunity for learning-by-doing, and based on principles of non-formal education, farmer's field demonstrations leader facilitates the learning process, encouraging and aiding the other farmers to adopt new ideas and practices property adapted to their needs through self-discovery activities practiced in the demonstration field.
The field demonstrations is presently operational in all governorates in delta and upper Egypt, attempt was mad in deferent research to identify the educational effects of field demonstrations, these previous researches did not extend its scoop to identify farmer's field demonstrations leader role.
The extent implementing field demonstrations increased the need to conduct this research to identify the leader role of farmer's field demonstrations in Sohag Governorate.
The research was conducted in Sohag governorate, random sample of 80 cultivators of field demonstrations drawn by a systematic random sample procedure from 132 in the list of cultivators field demonstration.
Data was collected, in May 2004, through a developed questionnaire, through in an interviewing each, respondent from cultivator's field demonstrations.
The data were analyzed statistically by using the frequencies, percentage, arithmetic mean, the correlation coefficient and (t) test. The main findings the extracted conclusions were as follows:
Regarding the respondents perception about their leader role, the results showed that (97.5%) of respondents were perceived and considered their leading role. (63.75%) of respondents were implementing their leading role.
There was a significant difference between the respondent's perception degree of the importance of their leading role and their obtained degree in implementing the leader role activities.
There was a significant correlation relationship between the respondent's obtained degrees in implementing the leading role activities and their obtained degrees in: exposure to mass media, disseminate new information, ideas, or practices to others, visiting the agricultural services agents, attitudes towards modernization, dogmatism and flexible thinking.
The results showed that the most important hindrances of implementing the respondent's leading role activities were:
Unavailability of enough time (24.6%).
Giving cultivators of field demonstration none specific extension tasks (23.8).
