Some variables affecting rural people's participation in developmental projects in Al Behera and Beni- Suef governorates

Abstract: The research was carried out in AI Behera and Beni Suef governorates, as they represent the highest governorates in the number of implemented developmental projects. Damanhour district (markaz)-Al Behera governorate, and Al Wastta district (markaz)-Beni Suet' governorate were chosen according to the previous criteria. Similarly, Sanhour village- Damnhour markaz and Quemin AI Aros village- AI Wasta markaz were chosen.
A sample of 300 interviewees (150 from each village) was randomly chosen from the total families in each village Data were collected by personal interview questionnaire, after testing its reliability, during (May-June) 2003.
The results revealed the following:
• No significant variances were found between rural people's participation in the developmental projects in both Al Behera and Beni Suef governorates.
. There were five independent variables explains the variance in rural people's participation degree in Al Behera governorate which are: cultural cosmopolitanism, education average of family's members, interviewee's leadership, interviewee's education and annual family's income, as R2 value of these variables was 0.55.
§ There were four independent variables explains the variance in rural people's participation degree in Beni Suef governorate which are: education average of family's members, cultural cosmopolitanism, interviewee's leadership and age, as R2 value of these variables was 0.62.
• The rural people's motivations to participate in the developmental projects in both Al Hehera and Beni Suef governorates were: religious motivation, gaining people's love, ascribing a social status and finally benefiting from these projects.
• The reasons that prohibit some rural people's participation arc: lack of capabilities, insufficient information about these projects and people's believing that no benefit from such projects.
