Importance of agricultural extension methods as a farmers knowledge source in Behira governorate rice renaissance program
Abstract: The main objective of the study was primarily to investigate importance of direct and indirect information sources for farmers in rice crop renaissance in some villages of Behira Governorate. The affiliated objectives were (I ) to determine farmers' information levels and practices related to different information sources available in the program, (2) to determine relationship between fanners distinguished characteristics and their information levels and practices in the program, (3) relative importance of information sources as perceived by the study sample, and (4) to identify some problem that encounter farmers in the program and their perception for different solutions to them.
The research data were collected during January - April, 2003 with random sample of 244 respondents in some village related to districts of Etai LI-Baroud, Mahmoudia, and Delingat / Behira Governorate_ A written questionnaire and personal interviews were used in collecting the research data. Percentages, arithmetic mean. standard deviation, simple correlation coefficient, Chi-square, and multiplied correlation were used in analyzing the obtained data.
The research findings were as the following :
1. There was a positive significant relationship between fanners information and practices and each of age, family size, agricultural and ownership, the owned rice cultivated lands, contact with extension service, job satisfaction, average crop production feddan, annual Incomes educational level. and family type.
2. The research findings indicated that field visits, followed by extension fields. and group extension meetings Came m the first three top used extension methods, while radio and TV. programs carne in the middle Conferences and bulletins came at the bottom of the used extension methods as perceived by the research interviewees.
