Analytical study of some social and economic aspects of small enterprises in some villages at Sharkia Governorate

Abstract: Small enterprises (projects) have been having a long and important history in Egypt in promoting the standard of living for numerous rural people as well as insuring social security, decreasing unemployment, reducing rural poverty, and preserving natural resources. The government had given a great care to this area as a response to the application of structural adjustment policies, and the increased number of unemployed youth.
Objectives of this research aim at identifying the following ; First; the various activities of the small enterprises in the areas of study, and sources of finance and credit variable to them.
Second; the relationship between the types of small enterprises and some of the studied independent variables and some social variables . Third; the relationship between the types of the small enterprises and some economic variables and to test the relationship between project capacity and some independent variables.
Fourth; the main problems facing owners of the small enterprises in the studied villages, and their suggestions to solve these problems.
Six villages in Zagazik district at Sharkia governorate were selected because they had the highest number of small enterprises. A random sample of 225 owners of small enterprise was chosen. Data were collected through a pre-tested structured questionnaire with personal interviews. Frequencies, Means, Chi square and (t) test were used for analysis of the data.
The results showed the following:
the least ratio of respondents is 3.6 % which belongs to industrial
enterprises, owners, while animal husbandry enterprises occupied large area on researches interests.
As for detecting source of the financial and relations with small scale enterprises owners, results indicated a significant relation at 0.01 level
between the two variables.
results had also indicated the existence of significant relation between type of the small scale enterprises and the following independent variables: professional status, monthly income,. holding of agricultural equipment, cosmpolitance , source of finance and capacity of small scale enterprises as independent variables at 0.01 level.
results had also indicated significant relation between type of activity
the small scale enterprises and expansion in investment in the enterprises at 0.01 level as well as with profitability from the enterprises at 0.05 level.
results indicated also significant relation at 0.01 level between capacity and type of the small scale enterprises.
The financial problems had occupied the first priority where 98.6 % of the respondents mentioned while the labor force problems occupied the last and sixth rank as they were mentioned by only 25.8 % of the respondents.
