Social class in an egyptian village and its relations with some developmental Behaviours

Abstract: This study aims basically at identifying the major features of the existing rural stratification system, determinants of social classes, identifying major differences among social classes regarding some features of class behaviours .
A sample representing 40% of Male family heads of El-khadmia village at Kafr El-Sheikh governorate was selected randomly. Reputational approach was adopted to measure. social stratification. The social reputation of family heads was determined by thirteen judges who are opinion leaders, two interview schedule forms were developed to measure the study variables. Percentages, Correlation, stepwise multiple regression techniques, analysis of variance and L.S.D. estimate were the tools of data analysis.
The results of the study showed that:
1- Three distinctive class were observed.
2- The major determinants of social class were land holding size, living possessions, respondents, education , income and age.
3- There was a positive and significant relationships using correlation analysis between social stratification scores and each of the following variables : organizational behavior, family harmony behavior, political behavior and developmental Participation behavior , but there was a significant negative relationship between economic behavior and social stratification scores .
4- Major statistical differences were found between means of the classes as fellow :
a-The differences increase according to class scores regarding to
developmental Participation behavior and political behavior. b-There is statistical differences between the mean of high class
and the others regarding to political behavior,
c-There is statistical differences between the mean of middle class and 1 the mean of low class regarding to economic behavior.
d-There is statistical differences between the mean of high class and the mean of low class regarding to family harmony and domestic economic behavior, the higher class has high level of family harmony, But the low class has higher domestic economic behavior than the high class.
