Rural women attitudes towards participation in water boards in some villages in Fayoum governorate.

Abstract: This study aimed at determining the attitude level of rural women towards participation in water boards, the independent variables related this attitudes and the constrains of participation.
The study was carried out in three villages (Beahmo, Garfs and Tersa) in Fayoum Governorate. Data were collected from a random sample of 210 rural women through personal interview according to pre tested questionnaire, frequencies, percentages and Chi Square tests were used to present and analyze data statistically.
The main findings of the study were:
- 40% of rural women had positive attitudes towards participation in water boards, 25.7% had neutral attitudes and 34.3% had negative attitudes.
- A significant relationship at 0.01 level was found between the level of attitude and farm size, contribution in farm work, informal social participation, opinion leadership, positive water quality practice, awareness of irrigation water problems and awareness of water board roles. Significant relationship at 0.05 level was found between the level of attitude and age and house location on the canal, while it was no significant relationship found with education and contribution in irrigation.
