Knowledge Needs of Farmers for Integrated Pest Management of Strawberry Crop in Ismailia Governorate
Abstract: Abstract
The study aims at determining the degree of knowledge needs of the farmers concerned with the technical recommendations for integrated pest management of strawberry crop in the research area. and determining the information resources benefit level from which farmers get their knowledge concerning the IPM of strawberry crop.
The study was conducted in Ismailia governorate on a random sample of 250 farmers during the year 2018 and used personal interviews questions for data collection. some statistical methods were used in the analysis of data and explaining the results. they were: frequencies. percentages. arithmetic mean.
The main results are as follows: The level of knowledge needs of the respondents for technical recommendations of integrated pest management of strawberry crop in general was low. the average percentage of their needs was 32.25% and their average level of knowledge need was about chemical control. The percentage of the average of their knowledge needs was 51.22%. while their knowledge needs were low in terms of technical recommendations for agricultural control and mechanical control. legislative control and biological control. The percentage of average implementation requirements was 19.93%. 33.6%. 42.4%. 46.6% respectively.
The results of the study was the most important sources of information that respondents derived their knowledge of farmers on the integrated pest management of strawberry crop (neighbors. friends. and fertilizer and pesticide traders) The average degree of leverage respondents from these sources (2.21. 2.44) degree respectively.
The study recommended the need for guiding interest in programs offered by the agricultural extension in the field of integrated pest management of strawberry.
