Knowledge and implementation of opinion leaders on the technical recommendations of the chamomile crop in some villages of Ibshway and Youssef Al-Siddiq centers in Fayoum governorate
Abstract: ABSTRACT
The research aimed at identify the level of knowledge and implementation of respondents on the technical recommendations related to crop chamomile wormwood at Fayoum governorate, and finally to identify the problems they face during the cultivation of the crop chamomile wormwood.
The research was conducted in some villages of Ibshaway and Yusef Al-Siddiq centers, on the total research community, amounting to 88 respondents. Data were collected through a personal interview using a questionnaire form specially prepared to conduct this research. The research was conducted during the months of March and April 2019. Percentages, arithmetic mean, standard deviation, were used to analyze data.
The Main research findings were as follow:
1- The research results showed that 46.6% of the respondents had a low general level of knowledge to technical recommendations for the crop of chamomile wormwood, while 22.7% of them had medium level of general knowledge.
2- The research also showed that there is a high level of knowledge of respondents for each of the following technical recommendations: planting date 42%, cultivation in sustainable land 50%, hoeing 68.2%, harvesting 48.9%, and drying 44.3% of the respondents respectively, while The knowledge level of the respondents opinion leaders came medium for each of the following technical recommendations: the amount of seed 59.1%, fertilization 73.9% of the respondents, respectively, and finally came the knowledge level of the respondents opinion leaders low in the following technical recommendations: Cultivation of the plantation land 40.9%, irrigation 54.5%, diseases and pests Insecticide, 45.5% of the respondents.
3- The research results showed that 56.3 % of the respondents had a low general level of implementation to technical recommendations for the crop of chamomile wormwood, while 23 % of them had medium level of general implementation.
4- The results also showed an increase in the respondents ’implementation level for each of the following technical recommendations : permanent cultivation 64.7% , hoeing 54.5%, and harvest 61.4%, while the level of implementation of the respondents was medium for each of the following technical recommendations: planting date 45.5%, the quantity of seeds 48.9%, . Finally, the respondents had a low level of implementation in the following technical recommendations: planting nursery land 44.3%, irrigation 58%, fertilization51.1%, insect diseases and pests 51.1%, and drying 48.9%.
5- The most important problems facing the respondents opinion leaders for the crop of chamomile wormwood are: The problem of lack of irrigation water throughout the year by 73.9%, followed by the problem of increasing the incidence of insect pests by 68.2%.
