Needs of Extension Workers To Fruit and Vegetable Bulletins

Abstract: This study aimed at determining the need level of agricult¬ural extension agents for specialized technical bulletins regar¬ding Vegetable and Fruit crops beside studying their level of prefering to various kids of agricultural publication. Random sample of 156 Extension agents were interviewed during the first half of 1991 by using a pretested Questionnaire. The results of this study could be summerized as follows:
1 - The needs level of extension agents for specialized technical bulletins related to either Vegetable Crops or Fruit Crops varied from one crop to another. This need level amounted to 42% for Cucumber, 0.42% for Cabbage, 38.8% for mandarise, and 209% for Lemon Crop .
2 - The general needs level of Extension agents for specialized technical bulletin for either Vegetable Crops or Fruit Crops was low. It amounted to 30.1% For vegetable Crops, and 26.3% for fruit Crops.
3- Considering Vegetable Crops or Fruit Crops, there were significant differences between percentages of extension agent's needs for technical bulletins related to agricultural service processes compared with Crops transporting, marketing and storing processes having very low needs percentage for post-harvest processes .
4- There were no significant differences between extension agents needs for technical specialized bulletins to both fruit and Vegetable Crops, whether on the general level or when comparing similar processes for each of them, where the low percentage situation included both of vegetable and fruit crops.
5- The preference level of extension agents for kind of publication varies; the extension bulletins and the specialized technical bulletins have the highest level ( 70.3 % & 62.2 % ), while the agricultural magazine and the cooperation newspaper have low preferability ( 3.5 % and 13 % respectivel ). There were significant differences between preferability percentages for various kinds of agricultural publications, when Compared with those of cooperation newspaper having the least level of preferability.
The previous results revealed the importance of giving more research attentian towards the determinants of the low need level for technical specialized bulletins and the necessity of develo¬ping a guideline for rationalizing the agricultural publication issuing policy, in order to increase the effeciency of agricultural publications.
