Use and preference of agricultural extension workers to extension methods in Menoufia governorate

Abstract: The study aimed at defining the relative importance of extension methods from the Extension Workers' (EW) point of view regarding its use and their preference, studying the relationship between this use and EWs suggestions to increase the usage of extension methods.
A random sample of 157 EWs representing 50 % of the total EWs in Menofia Governorate was chosen. Data was processed and analyzed statistically using percentages, means and Spearman Correlation Coefficient of Rank Order.
The results revealed that the use and preference of extension methods in descending order were : extension meetings and symposia, demonstration fields and aggregates, home visits, extension posters, extension bulletins, extension magazines, office visits, besides using rural broadcasting No significant relationship was found between the use and preference of these methods from the point of view of EWs.
The results revealed also that there were some problems encountering the EWs concerning the use of these methods such : unavailability of telephone line to most farmers, sacristy of suitable places for meetings, and unsuitable offices for EWs.
The suggestions raised by farmers to overcome these problems can be summarized as follows: Support both farmers and EWs with telephone facilities, construct suitable meeting places or auditorium and assign suitable offices for EWs to receive visiting farmers and accomplish the needed offices works.
Hence, the researchers see that these barriers and solutions should be taken into consideration when ptanning to use extension methods in any area and in any educational situation to increase the efficiency and effectiveness of extension education.
