Study of determinants of settlement of bend-wades in El-Mansour sector of El-Hamol district, Kafr El-Sheikh governorate

Abstract: This study aims at identifying the level of settlement of beneficiaries and at discovering the factors that are related to settlement and the factors that explain the variance in settlement.
To realize these objectives, data were collected from a systematic random sample of 113 beneficiaries from four villages in kl-Mansour sector of El-Hamol district, Kafr El-Sheikh .
Percentages, correlation, regression and step-wise multiple regression techniques ( step-wise solution) were used for data presentation and analysis.
The results of the study showed that :
1. The majority of beneficaries (70 %) enjoy .a moderate level of settlement.
2. The independent variables of this study explain about 42.09 % of the total variance in adaptation to community as an indicator of settlement.
3. The independent variables of this Study explain about 32.31 % of the total variance in orientation to land as an indicator of settlement.
4. The independent variables of this study explain about 41.30% of the total variance in the total settlement scale as partial regression coefficients show that five independent variables make significant unique contributions to the regression equation They are participation in local organizations, size of farm machine holding, soil improvement knowledge, innovativeness, and attitudes toward land reclamation policy.
The step-wise solution yielded a reduced equation containing five independent variables that explain about 34.71% of the variance in settlement. These variables are attitudes toward' land reclamation policy, participation in local organizations, satisfaction with community services. size of farm machine holding and innovativeness.
