A pretest for an agriculture extension video film

Abstract: It became essential to construct extension centers throughout the country:, and to project educational films, within and outside them, to those farmers who have VCRs. It is important that researchers, who write those films' scientific content, evaluate them before their distribution. In addition, it is also of great importance to evaluate those video films by extension agents that are responsible of carrying out the educational extension process. In this sense, these two elements, previously mentioned, are considered the main objectives of this study.
The study was conducted by two samples. The first sample included 50 researchers of those who are concerned with cotton crop in the Agricultural Research Center, and its affiliated experimental stations in both Qalyoubia and Menia Governorates. The second sample included 50 extension agents working in both the two governorates. The data for the study were collected during the period of June-July 1998. A written questionnaire was used for pre-testing. Fisher Exact Probability Test, frequency, and percentage were used in statistically analyzing the data of the study.
The main findings of the study were:
1) In regard to suitability of the film as perceived by the researchers:
Findings showed that the films' content was appropriate for presentation, based on the evaluation of the researchers who have the scientific background and experience. Those researchers decide on the film content s evaluation and it proper form as an educational extension film.
2) In regard to suitability of the films as perceived by the agricultural extension agents
Findings showed that the agricultural extension agents viewed the appropriateness of the film as achieving its main objective. Findings also indicated the high percentage of those agricultural extension agents who viewed suitability of the film content that was under study. This showed the suitability of the film from the views of both the researchers and agricultural extension agents.
3) In regard to availability of significant differences between the researchers and agricultural extension agents concerning evaluation components that were under investigation in this study:
The findings showed no significant differences between the researchers and agricultural extension agents in all the tested components with only one exception in, "consistency of shot transference", which was evaluated as moderate by the researchers and good by the agricultural extension agents.
4) In regard to suggestions presented by the researchers and agricultural extension agents to raise the suitability of the film:
The researchers and agricultural extension agents shared four suggestions. In addition, dividing the film into nine groups of films each is concerned with only one process of cultivating and marketing cotton crop. This suggestion came first as viewed by the agricultural extension agents and came the second by the researchers. It is thought that the main objective of this suggestion is to provide farmers with detailed information or a group of films during the crop cultivation that is extended to six months.
