Some Variable affecting the knowledge needs for milk cow breeders at El Beida and Shahhat Regions - The Green Mountain Municipality – Libya

Abstract: This study aims mainly at identifying the knowledge needs for milk cow breeders at El Beida and Shahhat Regions, The Municipality of the Green Mountain and some independent variables affecting those needs regarding nutrition, Husbandry, and marketing . In addition to identify the important constraints facing those breeders.
A random sample amounted to (90) respondents was selected, to represent 8% of the total population of cow breeders in L this area An interview questionnaire was developed to collect data: Percentages, frequencies, Averages, standard deviation, simple correlation coefficient, Multiple Regression and coefficient are used to analyze data statistically.
Results showed that 66% of the respondents had low knowledge need level. A positive and significant correlation's exist between the breeders needs for knowledge as a dependent variable and the respondent's level of aspiration at 0.01 whereas it correlates negatively with number . of schooling years, animal holdings, and attitudes toward breeding cows ,
2 - A significant correlation coefficient between the dependent variables and both of the respondent's age and, attitudes toward changes. However, no significant correlation exist between the following independent variables : size of land tenure, cosmopolitans, fatalism, Achievement motivation and the dependent variable. In addition, the related independent variables explained 27% of the total variance from the dependent variable. The main problems that confront The respondent according to their priorities are as follows : lack of and expensiveness of fodder's, no green forage in summer season, lack of and high costs of veterinary medicament and services, low member of veterinarian as well as Vet. Clinics, shortage of suitable markets and no control to protect marketing
The study recommends the enhancement of the agric. extension role in the field of cow breeding and husbandry through offering training courses. Extension personnel and increasing the subject matter specialist. In addition Small growers should be supported in kind, in cash and educationally. New veterinary clinics should be established coupled with launching more veterinary campaigns to remit areas eventually, woman's role should be enhanced in the field of dairy production to increase family income .
