Knowledge of rice graduate farmers and their information sources in some newly reclaimed areas in Port Said governorate

Abstract: This study aimed at identifying the knowledge level of rice graduate farmers regarding technical rice recommendations, determining the relationship between this knowledge Ievel of respondents and each of the studied independent variables, and identifying the respondents information sources.
The study was conducted in El-Radwan and El-Asher Min Ramadan villages in Port Said governorate. Data were collected during May and June, 2001 by interviewing respondents using a pre-tested questionnaire from a systematic random sample representing 20°./0 of the total population of rice graduate farmers in the two villages. {'hi Square test, compatible factor test and means were used to analyze data statistically, addition to frequencies and percentages.
The main results of the study revealed that:
1. The rice graduate farmers' knowledge' level was moderate regarding the planting date, selection of seeds variety and choosing nursery area, while it was relatively low for the rest of recommendations.
2. There were significant relationship between rice graduate farmers' knowledge level and each of the respondent's educational level and respondents' holding size,
3. The main sources of information for respondents were in descending order: extension worker, neighbors and friends, personal experience of respondent, extension publications, '1'V agricultural programs and Radio agricultural programs.
