A study of the impact of some social, economical, and personal variables on the benefit of farmers from agricultural extension methods utilized in Cotton production in some villages of Kafre El-Dawar district, El-Behira governorate

Abstract: The main objective of this research is to study the impact of some social, economical, and personal variables on the benefit of farmers from agricultural extension methods utilized in cotton production in some villages of Kafer El-Dawar District El-Behira Governorate.
To accomplish the objective five specific objectives were taken into consideration:
1- To study some social, economical, and personal variables of the respondents.
2- To determine the farmer's benefit from extension methods utilized.
3- To determine the relation ship of some social, economical, and personal variables of respondents on their benefit from extension methods utilized.
4- To determine the relative importance of extension methods according to respondents preference.
5- To determine the major problems facing farmers in using extension methods and their suggestions to overcome.
Data were collected from 100 respondents by using a questionnaire through personal interview in some villages in Kafer El-Dawar District, El-Behira Governorate. Percentages, standard deviation, and simple correlation were used as statistical methods.
Research results indicated that there is a significant positive relationship between the benefits of respondents from extension methods utilized and each of the following independent variables: respondents' age, educational status, contacts with agricultural extension organizations, contact with agricultural extension methods, contact with mass media methods, and average yield of cotton per faddan.
Research results indicated that there is a significant negative correlation between the benefit of respondents from extension methods utilized and age, while there is no significant correlation between the benefits of respondents from extension methods utilized and each of the following variables; land holdings, cotton land holding, and soil fertility.
The results revealed that benefits of respondents from extension methods utilized in descending order were farm visits, demonstration methods, extension meetings, panel discussions, television programs, and extension publications. Major problems facing respondents in their using extension methods are: shortage of extension methods available, absence of field days, inadequacy of television programs, shortage of audio visual materials and lack of extension agents. Their suggestions to solve such problems are increasing demonstration farms, more important, importance should be given to panel discussion, introduction of extension recommendation in television program in proper and convenient times, supporting agricultural extension workers with essential resources and increase their numbers.
