A study of training needs for female agricultural extension agents in some Egyptian governorates

Abstract: This study aims mainly to identify the degree of female extensionists' knowledge about working with rural women, and the degree of their practices in working with rural women, in addition to determining the attitudes of them towards working with rural women.
The study was conducted in El-Gharbia and El-Fayoum Governorates . A sample of 100 female extensionists was selected and interviewed by using a questionnaire designed and pre-tested for the study. Percentages, arithmetic mean, standard deviation, simple correlation, and step-wise multiple correlation regression analysis were used for data analysis .

The most important results of the study were :
1. A statistically significant relationship was found between the female extensionists' knowledge and all studied variables except: marriage status, name of job position, place of birth, place of present residence, educational level, and date of latest training course.
2. A statistically significant relationship was found between the female extensionists' practices and all studied variables except : marriage status, place of birth, educational level, and date of latest training course.
3. A statistically significant relationship was found between female extensionists' attitudes and only three studied variables : number of training courses, place of birth, and place of present residence.
4. The obtained results showed the need of agricultural extensionists for training courses in the following fields : bees breeding; and honey production_ preparing and marketing, agricultural products, methods of animal breeding and rearing, economical rural industries, house maintenance and repairing, first aids, cutting out and weaving of clothes, the manner of applying the house administration, environmental protection, rural women illiteracy, participation in serving and developing programs of the local community. Also, the results showed the need of extensionists for training courses in planing and evaluating of extensional programs, choosing and training the local women leadership . In addition, the extension female agents had showed their needs for extensional programs in other fields such as rabbits, fishes or champignon breeding, aromatic and medicinal plants, integrated management, as well as studies in English language, computer and religion enlightenment.
