Some Factors Affecting The Diffusion of Agricultural Innovations

Abstract: The purpose. of this study was to identify the level of farmers adoption for farm recommendations in the fields of livestock production, field crops production and vegetable crops production. Also', it aimed to study the differences in the levels of the adoption in such prementioned fields and their relationship with some personal, socio-economic and communication variables, besides recognizing the relative importance of the role^ of agricultural information sources in the diffusion and adoption of the agricultural recommendations in the studied fields.
For realizing the objectives of this study, the data was collected from 160 farmers randomly chosen from five villages in Ismailia governorate through personal interview \ using a questionnaire throughout the period from march-June, 1987. In the presentation and analysis of data and results, measures of central tendency and variability, analysis of variance, "F" test, simple- correlation and regression criteria re utilized end statical hypothesis zero set up.
The most, important results can be summarized as follows:
1- In the livestock production field, the study revealed that there was a significant association relationship between the adoption of livestock production's recommendation and both of the educational personal communication variables, the personal psychological variables and all the economic status variables except the variables of owning agricultural machineries which explain alone about 14 percent of the total variance in adoption of livestock production's recommendations> The educational person communication variables together explain about 24 percent of the variance, also the personal psychological variables together explain about 18 percent of the variance of the recommendations in same field.
2- in the production of field crops', it was found that, there is a significant association relationship between the adoption of the recommendation in this field and all the variables of this study which connect with the' economic bus, educational personal communication and the personal psychological variables. The economic status variables together explain about 23 percent from the total variance of the adoption of the recommendations in this field, the educational personal communication variables together explain about 50 percent and the personal psychological variables together explain about 36 percent.
3- In the field of vegetables production, the study revealed that there was a significant association relationship between the adoption of the recommendation with this field and between the economic status variables and educational personal communication variables, but not significant with participation in local organization in the personal psychological variables. The results showed that the economic status variables together explain about 32 percent from the variance of the adoption of the recommendations related to this field. The educational personal communication about 46 per cent and the personal psychological variables explain about 34 percent.
4- The study of agricultural sources of information and their relationship to adoption of agricultural recommendations in the field of livestock production; field of crop production and vegetables production showed that there was a strong significant association relationship between the level of adoption of agricultural recommendations in all these permeationed production the studied agricultural information sources, but varied descending order as follows:
A- in the first field the ordering of such information sources follow: village extension agent, extension basin supervisor, director of the agricultural cooperative society, listening clubs, D.3. center, Omar Lotfy cooperative center, broadcasting programs (radio), televised programes (TV), daily end weekly newspaper, extension magazine meetings and pamphlets.
B- the second field the ordining of such agricultural formation sources are the follow: vielage. extension agent, extension basic supervisor, director of the agricultural cooperative society, listening clubs, D.S. center, Omar Lutfy cooperative center, FAO, broadcasting programes (radio), extension magazine, meetings arid finally pamphlets.
C- In the third field the ordaring of the agricultural formation resources are the follow, village oxteusion agent, D.S. center, Omar Lutfy cooperative center, broadcasting programes (radio), daily and weekly newspaper, meeting and finally pamphlets.»

The study reveled also'3ome basic recommendations refering to the importance of depending on it and on other previons results of other studies carried out in the field of agricultural development in setting up developmental agricultural programes and policies.
