farmers knowledge of Technical Recommendations Relating to Marketing Banana fruit in Qualubia Governorate

Abstract: This research aimed at identifying the respondents farmers knowledge of technical recommendations relating to marketing of Banana fruit in the research area .identifying the respondents farmers knowledge resources of technical recommendations relating to Banana fruit , proposing an extension work plan to improve marketing of Banana fruit ,and identifying the barriers encountering Banana growers in marketing Banana fruit.
Hence ,the research was conducted in Banha ,Toukh ,E1-Kanater El-Khairia district in Qualubia governorate as one of the main govemorates producing Banana fruit .A stratified random sample of 224 respondents was drawn distributed as follows:90 respondents from Degwa village ,63 respondents from Tant El-Gazera village and 71 respondents Shoubra shehab. The data was collected during the month of december in 2006 ,by personal interview using a pre-tested questionnaire, tabulation, arithmetic mean, frequencies and percentages were used to present and analyze data statistically .
The main results of the research can be summarized as follows:
-The means of the respondents farmers knowledge degrees for
most of the technical recommendations relating to Banana fruit
marketing ,were low of 54 recommendations to market Banana
fruit : 6 recommendations were conveyed through public
extension related to the Ministry of Agriculture and institutions
rating to 15%
-9 recommendations were conveyed through public extension
related to Ministries other than the Ministry of Agriculture rating to 2.5%
-16 recommendations were conveyed through non-governmental
sources at a rate of 40%
- 9 recommendations were shared in delivering among all the sources mentioned at a rate of 22.5%.
The most persisting extension problems to market Banana fruit were:
-lack of forums, meetings, bulletins covering marketing processes, which is considered an obstacle for 94% of Banana fruit growers. - Shortage of marketing information concerning prices, quantities and market places whether for producers in their plots or wholesale markets is another barrier encountered by 88%of Banana growers and the agricultural extension shortage in marketing of Banana which is an obstacle for 60%of Banana growers.
These problems reveal the importance of giving more attention to extension programs of marketing and handling as well as the necessity of developing a central system for ' marketing information supported by indictors for prices, quantities and available market places etc. That can be delivered by extension in a suitable shape and in the proper time. Moreover ..extension might have the initiation to explain to farmers how to deal with such information in the best way to maximize their profit.
