Rural People's Trends Towards Girls Education in Sharkia and Beni Suef Governorates

Abstract: The research aimed at identifying rural people's trends towards girls education through determining the significant differences among interviewees in both Sharkia and Beni Suef governorates identifying the trend level of rural people, identifying the relationship between studied independent variables and trends degree of rural people towards girls education and finally, determine the relative contribution of most important variables in explaining the variance in trends degree of rural people.
The research was conducted in "Meet Haroon and Kafr Sareem keibly" villages in "Zefta" district (markaz), Sharkia governorate and "Drounka and Reifa" villages in Beni Suef district (markaz), Beni Suef governorate.
Data were collected by personal interview questionnaire after testing its validity, and data were collected during January and February 2007.
The following statistical methods were used: Pearson simple correlation coefficient,
t-test, step-wise analysis, frequencies and percentages.
The following represent the most important results of the research:
- No significant differences were found among studied governorates in regard of trends towards girls' education.
- Rural people trends towards girl's education in both governorates were high.
- The most important sources of information that shapes their trends towards girls' education in both governorates were: television, radio, neighbors and relatives. Whereas in Beni Suef village promoters were added as sources of information.
D The most important related variables to rural people trends towards girls' education in both governorates were: interviewee's age, interviews family number, education average of interviewee's family. family monthly income, satisfaction upon community provided services, interviewee's organization membership, cooperation with neighbors and informal participation degree.
- Four independent variables explain the variance in the dependent variable (rural people trends degree towards girls' education) in Sharkia governorate which is: interviewee's age, satisfaction upon community provided services, interviewee's organization membership, and family's participation in developmental projects.
- Three independent variables explain the variance in the independent variable (rural people trends degree) towards girls' education in Beni Suef governorate which is: family's participation in developmental projects, interviewee's years of education and interviewee's organization membership.
- The most important reasons that hinder rural people from educating their girls in both governorates were: weak economic status, people unconvinced with education, traditions and culture that prevent girls' education.
