THE ROLE OF LOCAL' LEADERS IN DISSEMINATING INTERCROPPING TECHNOLOGY IN SOME VILLAGES IN EL MONOFIA GOVERNORATE
Abstract: The main objectives of this study were to: determine the performance degrees of the local' leaders in disseminating intercropping technology between farmers in planting Soya Bean intercropped with Corn , identify utilizing degrees of different methods to disseminate intercropping technology ;also to determine farmers implementation score according to the respondents point of view ; to know the relationship between farmers' leaders performance degrees in disseminating intercropping technology between farmers and respondents utilizing degrees of different methods for disseminating ;and to identify the relationship between performance degrees of respondents and farmers implementation score ; and to recognize respondents suggestions to increase farmers number who implement intercropping technology .
This research was carried out in Quesna and El Shohada districts in EL Monofia governorate, they represent the largest areas in planting Soya bean intercropped with Corn. Sample size amounted to 100 respondents ,they were randomly chosen from 20 villages representing 62.5%of the total number of local leaders in these villages.
Data were collected during February 2007,using a pretested questionnaire by personal interview. Frequencies, percentages , mean and simple correlation were used for analyzing data statistically.
The most important findings were as follow :
•The mean of respondents’ performance in disseminating intercropping technology by planting Soya Bean with Corn was relatively high(= 3.30 degrees) With percentage 82.5%.
•The mean of utilizing technology disseminating methods by respondents was 3.06 degrees , that reflects high using of these methods with percentage 76.5% .
• 55% of farmers had highly and moderately implementation of intercropping technology in their farms. This result clarified that the technology have rather disseminate due to the planned efforts.
• Indication of the high economic revenue of the studied technology implementation and availability of agricultural extension bulletins were the most important suggestions of the respondents to disseminate intercropping technology among farmers and help them to develop their intellectual and skills abilities.
