EXPOSURE OF SOME EXTENSION METHODS AND ITS RELATIONSHIP TO THE FARMERS KNOWLEDGF OF THE TECHNiCAL RECOMMENDATIONS FOR THE MARJORAM CROP IN SOME VILLAGES AT MENIA GOVERNORATE

Abstract: The research aimed to identify the degrees of knowledge of the surveyed
farmers about technical recommendations of cultivation of the Marjoram crop, as well
as exposure degrees to some of the individual, group, and mass extension methods,
and finally determine the relationship between the degree of their knowledge of the
technical recommendations for the production of Marjoram crop and the exposure
degrees to the studied extension methods.
The research was conducted in Mania governorate because it has the largest
In Cultivating marjoram crop in Arab Republic Egypt, and according to this
standard, Beni Mazar district was chosen from districts of Menia Governorate, and
from Benl Mazar district it has been chosen three villages which are: village of Kafr el-
Sheikh Ibrahim, vii/age of Minsheat Abu Aziz, and village of Mit Ibogerj.
A questionnaire has been used with a personal interview to collect data during
the month of December 2013, the arithmetic average, the standard deviation, the
percentage of the average and the simple correlation coefficient used to analyze the
data statistically, and presented by using tables, frequencies, and percentages.
The most important findings of the study were:
•the farmers knowledge degrees of all the technical recommendations on
cultivation and production of Marjoram crop were moderate, where the percentage
of the average degree of knowledge was 63.1 %.
•The exposure degrees of the respondent farmers on combined extension methods
were high, where the percentage of the average degree of exposure was 84.1 %.
•The extension meetings and field visits achieved the highest degree of exposure
among the studied extension methods and their percentages of average exposure
degrees were 100% and 92.0% respectively, while the extension bulletin and
telephone call achieved the lowest exposure among the studied extension methods
and their percentages of average exposure degrees were 73.7% and 62.7%
respectively.
There were significant relationships at 0.01 between:
- The degrees of exposure to demonstration method of, extension meetings,
extension fields and the total degrees of exposure to the combined methods of
extension with the degrees of respondent farmers knowledge for operations of
preparation and processing of land for cultivation.
- Degrees of exposure to extension meetings and T.V. agricultural programs with the
degrees of respondent farmers knowledge about post-harvest operations.
- Finally, the degrees of exposure to the telephone call method, and the total degrees
of exposure to combined extension methods with the degrees of respondent
farmers knowledge for insect resistance operations.
• There was no relationship between the degree of exposure of the respondent
farmers for the studied extension methods and their knowledge degrees to the
technical recommendations related to service of Marjoram crop operations.
