Effect of different band-width sowing and land leveling methods on lentil productivity.

Abstract: Up till now in Egypt, the hand sowing is still the most popular in sowing lentil crop. To obtain a high and good yield for lentil crop. We must have a good system to regulate seed distribution during the sowing process. Therefore, the aim of this research is to study the effect of some different band width sowing and leveling systems on productivity of lentil crop for seeds and straw yield. The experiments were carried out in two winter successive growing seasons, 2003 - 2004 at Tag EL-Ezz Research station Dakahliea Governorate. Methods of band width sowing and land leveling were used ,modified machine at width of (20 ,40 ,60 and 80 cm ) ,seed drill without furrow openers ,seed drill with flat distributors at width of 25 cm, hand sowing and land leveling by laser and hydraulic systems. The results indicated that: The lowest values of the (C.V. %) of the plant distribution was obtained by modified machine at width of 80 cm, (4.71% and 5.75%) and (7.76 % and 7.99 %) at lateral and longitudinal directions at the laser and hydraulic leveling methods respectively. The highest yield of seeds (0.904 and 0.775 ton/fed.) was obtained by using the modified machine at width of 80 cm and land leveling by laser and hydraulic methods respectively. The lowest cost of sowing operation and unit production (9.67 L.E / fed and 10.69 L.E / ton) were obtained by using modified machine at band width of 80 cm with laser leveling.
