Developing hay and straw local fixed baler to produce Egyptian baler

Abstract: A local fixed baler was developed to perform hay and straw baling with safety procedures.
A comparison study was conducted to compare the performance of the baler before and after development during baling rice straw and berseem hay. Bale density, size for storing bales, number of broken bales, fuel consumption, power and energy requirements, operational cost and criterion cost were investigated as a function of change in baler material feedrate and plunger speed.
The experimental result reved that bale density is in the optimum region and size required for storing bales as well as energy and cost is minimum with the use of the baler after development under the following conditions :
- Material feed rate of 1.8 ton / h (for rice straw) and 3.6 ton /h (for berseem hay) .
- Plunger speed of 25 m / min
