Evaluation of surface irrigation under perforated pipeon sugarcane in old valley, Egypt.

Abstract: The current study was carried out at Razecat village, Armant city, Qena Governorate in 1998/1999 and 1999/2000 seasons in clay soil to evaluate surface irrigation method under different discharges of perforated pipe 0.6,0.8,1.0 (l/s /orifice) compared with traditional irrigation on sugar cane crop. The results showed that perforated pipes have a positive effect on increasing agricultural production by increasing yield per unit area and through saving water in order to irrigate more area. The water applied through perforated pipe decreasing with percentage (12.19%, 18.64% and 23.22%) and (12.92%, 18.91% and 23.5%) under different discharge of 0.6, 0.8 and 1.0 l/s, respectively compared with traditional irrigation in two seasons 1998-1999 and 1999-2000. The crop yield increased with percentage (9.0%, 11.2% and 13.1%) and (14.9%, 17.3% and 19.0%) under different discharges of 0.6,0.8and 1.0 l/s, respectively compared with traditional irrigation in two seasons 1998-1999 and 1999-2000. The sugar weight increased with percentage (3.01%, 6.27% and 8.27%) and (14.56%, 17.18% and 21.72%) under different discharges 0.6, 0.8 and 1.0 l/s, respectively compared with traditional irrigation in two seasons 1998-1999 and 1999-2000. The water use efficiency for crop yield increased with percentage 24.73%, 37.5% and 47.28%) and (31.92%, 44.6% and 55.63%) different discharges of 0.6, 0.8and1.0 l/s, respectively compared with traditional irrigation in two seasons 1998-1999 and 1999-2000. The water use efficiency for sugar weight increased with percentage 17.5%, 32.5%, 40.0%) and
