Stldy Of Some Biochemical And Hormonal Changes Following Trypanosoma Evansi Infection In Egyptian Sheep And Their Effects On Its Reproductive Performance

Abstract: ABSTRACT
Eighteen Egyptian sheep were used in this study. Out of them, twelve adult and sexually mature Egyptian sheep, six rams and six pregnant ewes, were artificially infected with T. evansi, the other six healthy adult and sexually mature sheep, three rams and three pregnant ewes, were used as uninfected control. All animals were about 2-3 years old and were observed for nine weeks. The intensity of parasitaemia and the degree of anaemia were measured. Some blood biochemical and thyroid hormone profiles were estimated. All control animals were in good and healthy conditions till the end of the experiment, and the pregnant control ewes gave normal birth with healthy newly born kids. The infected rams showed enlargement and inflammation in the scrotal sac and testicles. Out 0f the infecred ewes, two were aborted and two died at the eighth week o i. with dead • .embryos while the other two gave birth but their lambs died five days after birth (still birth). All infected animals hadanaemia,febrile conditions coincidedwith parasitaemia. The infected animals cxhibited significant -increase in levels of serum total proteins and globulin. There were significant reductions in serum albumin, cholesterol and T3, andT4. Serum HDL levels were gradually reduced from the first week p.i till the end of the experiment.
