Effect of Anabolic Steroids (Boldenone Undecyle-Nate) On Metabolic, Hormonal and Reproductive Performance of Mature Rams

Abstract: SUMMARY:
Ten Barki rams were divided into three groups, control, full and half dose groups. The full and half dose groups were injected 50 and 25 mg boldenone -17undecylenate deeply in¬tramuscular every three weeks for five times, respectively. Serum metabolites, trace miner¬als, hormones and semen were monitored before and allover the period of experiment. Total protein and globulin of the full dose group were significantly different between weeks after treatment. Cholesterol, triglycerides and urea of the half dose group were significantly af¬fected by time after injection. Albumin and T4 were significantly affected by treatment. Zinc increased after treatment. Testosterone of the full dose group showed significant varia¬tions between weeks after treatment. Volume of semen, mass activity, individual sperm mo¬tility, sperm cell concentration and scrotal circumference were significantly decreased in both full and half dose treatments. On other hand, live sperm percent was not significantly changed. Although the half dose group had significantly higher sperm abnormality but the full dose group had a lower one than control. Reaction time significantly increased in the full dose group while the half dose had the lowest one. This study aims to evaluate the effect of this growth promotor on metabolic, hormonal and reproductive performance of mature rams.
