Studies on Fertility Decline in Some Aged Zaraibi Bucks

Abstract: ABSTRACT:
The semen parameters of four Zaraibi bucks in relation to the ultrasonography of testicles, epididymis and accessory sex organs and the clinical analysis of serum in addition to the endocrine profiles and trace minerals was studied to determine the causes of decreased fertility of those aged zaraibi bucks. All semen parameters showed significant difference between animals except mass activity whereas months of the spring showed significant effect on most semen parameters except individual .sperm motility and concentration. The hormonal profiles showed no significant difference between animals regarding either T3, T4, and testosterone. No significant difference between animals was found for zinc, copper, urea, cholesterol, triglycerides and albumin. Total proteins, globulin and albumin/globulin ratio means were significantly different between animals and months of the spring. Generally, zinc and copper concentrations were lower in serum that indicated their relation to fertility. The ultrasonography detected degenerations in both testicles in one buck, unilateral testicular granuloma in two bucks with normal accessory sex organs. Correlations coefficients were also performed between all parameters concerning semen, hormonal, mineral and clinical chemistry. In conclusion, trace minerals deficiency especially copper and zinc and increase age played a role in decreased fertility of bucks in this study.
