Vtrological and Pathological Studies on Buffalo Pox Virus Isolated From Dairy Buffaloes* Udder

Abstract: SUMMARY:
Pox like lesions were frequently recorded in 43.75% dairy buffaloes recently introduced into small and moderate dairy barns at Kafr EL-Gabal and Zawct Abo Mcsalem districts at Giza Gov-ernrate. These affections led to reduction of milk yield. This work was done to isolate and identify the causative agent to overcome the problem and its economic losses.
After inoculation of the prepared collected sam¬ples on the chorioallantoic membrane of embryo-nalcd chicken eggs, pock lesions were observed on the 4th or 5th day-post inoculation. Impression smears and samples were prepared from each har¬vested chorioallantoic membrane for identifica¬tion of the pox virus using Agar gel precipitation •>«rt indirect immunofluorescent techniques. Both tests showed positive results in all examined stl pies in the form of precipitin lines or specific loplasmic fluorescent reaction, respectively.

Gross examination of the infected udders prirn^ ly revealed, tenderness followed by cmbcddcc superficial papule with eroded or ulcerated faces on the teats and lower part of the udc Histopathological study revealed focal infillralj of mononuclear and polymorphonuclear leuce tes in the dermal papillae with exocytosis of inflammatory cells. Mild oedema and perivasj lar cuffing were also seen in the dermal la) The cells of the stratum spinosum showed 1 looning in addition to necrobiole changes pari larly near the ulcerative areas that was highly nitrated by polymorphnuclcar leucocytes.
