Effect of Incubation Time of Diluted Rabbit Semen and Time of Gn-Rh Treatment of Does on Fertility Traits

Abstract: SUMMARY- Three hundreds and ten does and forty bucks of New-Zealand White rabbits (9 months age) were used in two experiments. Experiment 1 planned to investigate the effect of incubation time (0, 20, 40 or 60 minutes) of diluted rabbit semen at 37 °C on semen quality (represented by advanced sperm motility %, dead and abnormal spermatozoa % and acrosomal damages %) and fertility traits of rabbit does (represented by kindling rate % and litter size and weight at birth).
In Experiment 2, kindling rate and litter size and weight at birth of rabbit does inseminated artificially and intramuscularly injected with Gn-RH at (60, 30 or 0 minutes before artificial insemination) or (0, 30 or 60 minutes after artificial insemination) were recorded.
The results obtained from this work showed that, advanced sperm motility of NZW rabbit semen diluted with saline solution (0.9 % NaCL + egg-yolk) and incubated at 37 °C was significantly (P<0.05) arranged descendingly at 40, 60, 20 then 0 minutes from incubation, respectively. The percentages of each of dead and abnormal spermatozoa and acrosomal damages showed no significant variations due to incubation time of diluted semen at 37 °C for up to 4 hours. Fertility traits (represented by kindling rate % and litter size and weight at birth) of rabbit does inseminated artificially were arranged (P<0.05) descendingly as inseminated using diluted semen and incubated at 37 °C after 40, 60, 20 then 0 minutes of incubation, respectively.
Each of values of kindling rates % and litter size and weight at birth of NZW rabbit does injected intramuscularly with Gn-RH before 60 minutes of artificial insemination were significantly (P<0.05) better than those injected at 30 or 0 minutes before artificial insemination or at 0, 30 or 60 minutes after artificial insemination, respectively.
