Ultrasonography, Bacteriology, and Treatment of Endometritis in Mare

Abstract: SUMMARY:

In the present study, forty repeat breeder mares were diagnosed to be suffered from en¬dometritis through their examination by ultrasonograph, of which thirty five mares had mild endometritis whereas five mares had severe endometritis, all these mares were under trials of treatment before their bacteriological examination to avoid the progressivencss of the condition. They were treated by intrauterine infusion penicillin-streptomycin or chloram¬phenicol. All mares that had mild endometritis were cured whereas only 30(85.7%) were cured and served successively .On the other hand the other five mares suffering from severe endometritis did not respond to this treatment. Then, these cases were examined bacteriolog-icaMy, the isolated microorganisms from these cases were Pseudomonas aeruginosa, Strep¬tococcus zooepidemicus, E.coli and Citrobacter freundii. Antibiotic sensitivity test was carried out to the isolated organisms in vitro. The infected mares responded to the.antibiotic of choice systematically and locally and they were successfully served and became pregnant.
