Immunological studies on goat vaccinated with rift valley fever vaccines

Abstract: Fifteen adult susceptible Balady goats, ten of them were vaccinated S/C with inactivated RVF vaccine (106TCID50/dose), three goats were vaccinated with attenuated RVF vaccines(104TCID50/dose)and two were kept as control, specific antibody induced by inactivated vaccine estimated by serum neutralization test appeared at the 2nd week post vaccination with an average of neutralizing index(NI) 1.35 for inactivated RVF vaccine and reached to its peak at the 2nd month(2.7)NI. The duration of immunity was about 5 months, where the level of the serum neutralizing antibodies still within the acceptable figure of protection up till the 5th month(1.7)NI. While in the gropu vaccinatd with attenuated RVF vaccine, the neutarlizing antibodies stills within acceptable figure until the end of the experiment (6months). The antibody in serum of offspring from vaccinated dams with inactivated RVF vaccine (born 2 months post-vaccination(were at the acceptable figure at 2nd week of age (2.35)NI, and it was still within acceptable figure untill 10th week of age (1.6) NI.While those born after 4 months post-vaccination, the protective level was detected at 2nd week of age (2.15) NI, and this acceptable figure of protecton was continued up till 8th week of age (1.7)NI. The immunogloblobluins (IgG) were detected by ELISA and recorded as optical density readings correlated well with those obtained by SNT.It was noticed that antibody level in serum and colostrum of delivered ewes was (1.7). SNT and ELISA techniques were used for detection of neutralizing antibodies in offspring sera.
