Trials for preparation and evaluation of a combined vaccine against haemorrhagic septicaemia and bovine ephemeral fever in cattle.

Abstract: This study was conducted for preparation of a combined inactivated aluminum hydroxide vaccine against P.multocida P.haemolytica and bovine ephemeral fever. Eighteen calves were divided into 6 groups, 3 groups for each. This vaccine was inoculated twice, 1 month apart, in a dose of 5 ml S/C, serum samples were collected for the evaluation of cellular immunity by determination of Heterophils / Lymphocytes ratio and humoral immunity by IHA , ELISA and passive mouse protection test. The trivalent combined vaccinated group elicited high titre of antibodies against the complex polysaccharide antigens which acted in an orchestrated protective response than in monovalent vaccinated groups against the challenge with P.multocida, P.haemolytica and BEF. The protective immune response continue from 14 days till 9 months post first vaccination.
