Evaluation of cellular and humoral immune response of cattle vaccinated with kenyan sheep pox vaccine

Abstract: Eight bulls were inoculated intradermally (I/D) in the tail fold, individually with one ml of alive attenuated tissue culture Kenyan sheep pox virus vaccine (KSPVV). Blood samples were collected on heparin solution from vaccinated and 2 control non-vaccinated bulls at 1.3.5.7.10.14.21 and 28 days post inoculation (DPI). Evaluation of the cell mediated immune response of (SPVV) was carried out by lymphocyte transformation assay.
The level of lymphocytes increased from the 3rd DPI (0.428) till reach the peak at the 10th DPI (1.22).The humoral immunity was investigated using serum neutralization test (SNT) and enzyme linked immunosorbent assay (ELISA) at 7,14,21,28,45,60,90,120,150 and 180 DPI. The neutralizating antibodies titre elevated from the 7th DPI (8 and 320 till reached the maximum titre on the 21st and 28th DPI (128 and 5120 by SNT and ELISA respectively. Achallenge test on 180 DPI revealed sufficient cross protective immunity of vaccinated animals against virulent virus.
