studies on vaccination of sheep and goat against Rabies and Sheep Pox

Abstract: The aim of this study is to verify the effect of simultaneous and mutual vaccination with sheep pox and rabies vaccines on the immune response of sheep and goats. Serum samples were obtained from all groups of animals weekly post vaccination up to 9 weeks to monitor the level of induced antibodies by using SNT and ELISA. From the obtained results, it could be noticed that serum neutralizing rabies antibody titres showed different levels among different vaccinated animal groups. The antibodies began to appear in all vaccinated animal groups from the first week post vaccination with rabies vaccine and reached peak titres by the 4th- 5th week post vaccination. It was noticed that the antibody titres for rabies in group four (sheep and goats vaccinated simultaneously with sheep pox and rabies vaccines) were the highest followed by those in group three (sheep and goats were vaccinated with sheep pox vaccine rabies vaccine, two weeks intervals. On the other hand, sheep pox neutralizing antibody indices in all vaccinated sheep and goats were not affected by the presence of rabies vaccine, showing the same levels of antibody titre detected from the second week post vaccination and increased gradually till the 4th WPV. All animals after four weeks were challenged by sheep and goat virulent pox viruses. All vaccinated groups withstand the challenge with a protection ratio of 100% but the control group showed the clinical signs of pox disease.
