Adaptation of locally isolated equine influenza virus on different cell lines

Abstract: locally isolated equine influenza virus (A/equi-2/Cairo-2/2000) was successfully adapted to three different cell lines, Madin darby Canine Kidney (MDCK), Baby hamster kidney cell (BHK) and African green monkey kidney cell (Vero) cells from 4th passage on word, the rate of virus growth become regular and produce distinct cytopathic effect (CPE) with constant incubation periods, 2 days in MDCK cells and 3 days in both BHK and Vero cells. The peak of virus yield occurred at 2 days MDCK and 3 days (BHK and Vero cells) post inoculation with maximum infectivity titer and haemgglutination (HA) titres of 109 ,108 ,107.5 ,EID50 / 0.2 ml and of 29 , 28 , 27 log2 repectively.
