Immunological characterization of pasteurella multocida isolated from cases of rabbit haemorrhagic septicaemia.

Abstract: The immunological variation and antigenic diversity among rabbit isolates in comparison with standard Pasteurella multocida strains were investigated by western immunoblot analysis. All blotted antigens components of field or standard strain reacted variably with the antisera used reflecting to some extent the antigenic diversity in field isolates and consequently on their immunoreactivity. The results of immunological comparison and cross reactivity among different pasteurella multocida serotypes were investigated using active mouse protection test. Vaccination of mice with monovalent bacterins prepared from standard strains and challenged with homologous and heterologous field isolates revealed that, cross protective properties were not depend on the strain capsular antigen but were associated with somatic antigen.
