Vaccination of dogs by rabies vaccine baits

Abstract: The present study was carried out on 18 dogs divided into 6(3dogs per each). TWo types of baits were preparaed from chicken heads and corn cake. Each type of these baits was divided into 2 portions; one containing live ERA cell culture rabies vaccine and th other bait contained inactivated ERA cell culture vaccine. Each of these baits was administrated to a group of dogs (each dog was fed one bait containing the protective dose of rabies vaccine. Another group of dogs was vaccinated I/M using the inactivated vaccine. An unvaccinated dog group was kept as control. Serum neutralization test as well as ELISA results revealed that all vaccinated dogs exhitbited good levels of specific rabies antibodies in their sera. Although, live vaccine baits were forund to be useful to vaccinate dogs against rabies and could be recommended to be used for vaccination of wild life animals and stray animals.
