Experimental infection of mice with rabies virus “ERA” Strain by different routes

Abstract: In this study swiss albino mice different ages were used as a model of infection with rabies virus by routes other than bite. Rabies virus ERA strain adopted on BHK21 Cl13 monolayer cells was used in this study for infection of mice. The experimental routes used were buccal and nasal instillation while the intracerebral route was compared as a positive control.
Results achieved in this study revealed that mice could’ve infected by rabies virus through be buccal and nasal mucosa. These results were confirmed by virus neutralization test and fluorescent antibody technique.
