Attempts for improving the keeping quality of PPR Tissue culture attenuated vaccine

Abstract: Augmentation of Peste Des Petits Ruminants (PPR) vaccine inoculating medium as well as its stabilizer each with 1mm Cacl2 was compared with the conventionally produced vaccine. The two vaccine batches were produced on vero cells using local Egyptian PPR strain [Egypt 87]. Better virus performance was observed on the cultures inoculated with CaCL2 supplemented infected medium. Since the cytopathological effect was earlier and more widespread, post lyophilization (freeze drying) virus titration has proved that the CaCl2 augmented batch had exalted virus titer over the blank batch, throughout the experiment duration. Probably calcium ions have improved the virus infectivity to the cells with out displaying deleterious effects on both. More speculations concerning the mechanism of such improvement as well as the animal immune response to such new vaccine formula should be covered.
