The potential use of anti- idiotypic antibodies as a serodiagnostic reagent for detection of rinderpest and ppr antibodies

Abstract: Anti idiotype antibodies (AIA) were prepared to rinderpest (RP) and PPR viruses by using their hyperimmune sera (Id). RP and PPR- AIA were standardized as being used for coating ELISA plates against serial dilutions of their relevant hyperimmune sera. Both types of AIA were utilized as a diagnostic antigens to assay cattle and sheep sera in comparison with the conventional viral antigens. Either RP or PPR – AIA proved to be as potential as their viral antigens in terms of the specificity and the sensitivity upon using as diagnostic antigens. Moreover, RP- AIA managed to detect PPR antibodies with a higher efficacy then RP viral antigen and vice versa. Hence, anti- idiotype antibodies have been displaying a great potentiality in diagnostic purposes over the traditional systems.
