The potential use of anti-idiotypic antibodies as a serodiagnostic reagent for detection of rinderpest and PPR antibodies

Abstract: Anti-idiotype antibodies (AIA) were prepared to rinderpeste (RP) and PPR viruses by using their hyperimmune sera (Id.) RP and PPR – AIA were standardized as being used for coating ELISA plates against serial dilutions of their relevant hyperimmune sera. Both types of AIA were utilized as a diagnostic antigens to assay cattle and sheep sera in comparison with the conventional viral antigens. Either RP or PPR-AIA proved to be as potential as their viral antigens in terms of the specificity and the sensitivity upon using as diagnostic antigens. Moreover, RP – AIA managed to detect PPR antibodies with higher efficacy than RP viral antigen and vice versa. Hence, anti-idiotype antibodies have been displaying a great potentiality purposes over the traditional systems.
