Simultaneous infection with rabbit haemorhhagic disease virus and rabbit pasteurellosis in rabbit farms in Egypt

Abstract: A lethal acute highly fatal systemic infection was observed in three rabbitries in Egypt. The clinical signs and necropsy findings were consistent with rabbit haemorrhagic disease virus (RHDV) infection and/or rabbit pasteurellosis. RHDV and pasteurella multocida were isolated from examined cases. The isolated virus was identified by haemagglutination (HA), enzyme linked immunosorbent assay (ELISA) and sodium dodecyl sulphate polyacrylamide gel electrophoresis (SDS-PAGE). Pasteurella multocida organisms were fully serotyped as A:12 and A:3. SDS-PAGE analysis ofo uter membrane protein (OMP) prepared from isolated pasteurella multocida was conducted.
In conclusion, the lethal haemorrhagic infection was due to simultaneous infetion with both RHDV and Pasteurella multocida in rabbitries. Recommendation for prevention and control are suggested.
